Q-Park hospital car park wins ‘Best New Car Park Award’

Q-Park’s multi-storey car park at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, has been award ‘Best New Car Park’ by the British Parking Association.

The £7 million, 736-space car park is Q-Park’s first new build in the healthcare industry and it has been awarded the prestigious ParkMark award and the European Standards Parking Award (ESPA). The car park has been developed through a 25-year Public Private Partnership with Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust, and designed jointly by Q-Park and Potter & Holmes Architects.

“We are delighted to receive this award. The car park industry is changing and there is a lot of competition. We like to feel we are in the vanguard of the improvements that are being made,” says Q-Park Chief Executive Alan Ashbee.

“The healthcare environment epitomises exactly what Q-Park strives to achieve. When people visit a hospital they usually have other things on their mind. What they need when they park their car is a welcoming atmosphere, safety and security and personal, professional service, and that is what Q-Park is all about.”

Musgrove Park car park sets new benchmarks in the healthcare sector.  Special cedar wood panels form a striking cladding for the building and the construction includes natural stone encased in galvanised mesh for support. But for many the highlight is the light sculpture: an ‘art for life’ installation incorporated into the façade and consisting of fluorescent fittings with coloured filters installed between the angled slats.

The permanently manned car park has been designed to be light and open – providing increased security and safety – with wide, clearly marked parking bays and permanent CCTV coverage of entrances and exits.
