* The Stille Armen Maastricht Foundation was established in 1993 to help alleviate silent poverty in Maastricht. The foundation’s concept dates back to 1932, when an employee of the Dutch Tax Authorities first distributed generously filled Christmas hampers to poor families, anonymously. During the war years, this initiative grew and eventually developed into a large volunteer organisation. Currently about 80 volunteers keep the foundation going.

In 2025, the foundation continues to support poor families, especially around the festive season. At this time of year, it’s harder for these families to cope, especially when they see friends, family and neighbours are enjoying themselves and feasting on delicacies. Stille Armen Maastricht’s annual Christmas hamper campaign ensures that these needy families can also enjoy themselves to the full, just like every family deserves!
